A More Thoughtful Approach to Hair Loss
Hair loss is not one-size-fits-all. Your consultation includes an in-depth review of your history, medications, supplements, family history, laboratory findings, and treatment goals, along with trichoscopy and standardized photography when appropriate. From there, we develop a personalized written treatment plan that may incorporate prescription medications, custom topical therapies, nutrition and supplementation, or advanced hair restoration procedures depending on your needs.
What Your Hair Loss Consultation Includes
Your consultation is designed to provide a detailed, individualized assessment of your hair and scalp. Before your visit, you will complete intake forms so we can review your hair-loss timeline, medical history, family history, medications, supplements, prior treatments, hormonal factors, nutrition, recent illnesses or major stressors, and your personal goals.
During the appointment, we perform a comprehensive hair and scalp examination. This will include trichoscopy for magnified evaluation of the follicles and scalp, standardized clinical photography to establish a baseline, and a hair pull test when appropriate to assess hair shedding and evaluation of the stage of shedding. High-resolution or microscopic photography may also be used to document specific findings in greater detail.
We review relevant laboratory testing and discuss whether additional bloodwork may be helpful based on your history and examination. In selected cases, a scalp biopsy may be recommended if more information is needed to clarify the diagnosis, although most consultations do not require a biopsy.
Preparing For Your Consultation
Please arrive with clean, dry hair and avoid applying oils, dry shampoo, fibers, root concealers, styling powders, or other products directly to the scalp on the day of your appointment.
Please bring or upload any relevant prior records, including recent laboratory results, prior scalp biopsy or pathology reports, previous dermatology notes, and a current list of medications and supplements. If you have photographs showing how your hair has changed over time, those can also be helpful.
Your Personalized Treatment Plan
You will receive a written summary of your working diagnosis and a personalized treatment plan outlining the recommendations discussed during your visit.
Your plan may include prescription medications, customized topical therapies, nutritional or supplement recommendations, laboratory testing, scalp care, procedural options, and other hair-restoration treatments when appropriate.
Most importantly, you will leave with a clearer understanding of what may be contributing to your hair loss, which treatment options are appropriate for you, and the next steps in your care.
